3. Belt Joint shape
 
* NTS joint ( NTS: No Top Skive)
Has no grain removed from the top of the join and is essentially a join as described above under lap joins.
 
* LTS joint ( LTS : Light Top Skive)
Aim is to reduce the join thickness to the same caliper as the belt and this may have all, some or none of the grain removed. This is largely depends on the grit size.
 
* SBT joint ( SBT : Straight Butt Joint)
Where the two ends are butted together and held together by a different synthetic patch and adhesive is used.
Usually a joint made under heat and pressure.
